How to Apply
The application deadline for the fall Ph.D. program is November 15. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
Application for admission to the neuroscience program at The University of Texas at Austin includes two components. Part 1 is an application to the University of Texas Graduate School, and Part 2 is supplemental information for the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program. Your application will NOT be considered until both Parts 1 and 2 are completed. All required materials are due on November 15th.
Please do not wait until the last minute to submit application materials.
We recommend that students apply in advance of the deadline to ensure that all materials are received on time by the Office of Graduate Admissions.
Part 1: Application to The University of Texas Graduate School
Instructions for U.S. and international applicants
The complete application to the graduate school includes the following components. For details, refer to the admissions link listed above.
- The Graduate School Application: The major code to use for the neuroscience Ph.D. program is 671100. Your EID will be emailed to you 1-2 business days after submitting this application. Please note that applications can take up to 72 hours to load to The University of Texas at Austin system after submission of the application form.
- A Statement of Purpose: This statement should be 1-2 pages that describes (1) why you wish to pursue graduate work in neuroscience; (2) your research experience(s), including background, hypotheses, approaches, real or expected findings and implications; as well as (3) your future career aspirations.
- Three recommendations: Submit the names and email addresses of three recommenders in the "References" section of the online application. At least one must be a research mentor. Be sure these email addresses are current and accurate. Your recommenders will be contacted via email and directed to submit their letters electronically via a website link where they complete a questionnaire and submit their letter of reference.
- Transcripts: Please see the instructions for submission on the Graduate Admissions website.
- GRE: The neuroscience graduate program is NOT requiring or considering GRE scores for fall 2024 applications. However, the UT graduate school general application does still have an area to report GRE scores. You may submit your application without GRE scores, and once submitted, the GRE requirement will automatically be waived by the graduate school; this may take up to 72 hours. It is not necessary to contact us about this matter during this time.
- International students send official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) scores.
- Application fee: $65 for U.S. students and $90 for international students.
